Raul E. Ybarra

Ybarra sitting at a desk with bookshelves behind him.Professor Raul Ybarra received his PhD in English from the University of Illinois at Chicago and has been teaching courses in writing at CPCS since 1995. His area of expertise is in Communication difficulties and cultural differences between Latino students and Anglo-mainstream instructors, and writing difficulties Latino students have in writing.

His recent publications include: Writing as a Hostile Act: A Reason for Latino Students Resistance to Learning to Write. (2004). New York, NY: Peter Lang Publishing; Creating Alternative Discourses in the Education of Latinos and Latinas: A Reader. (2004). Co-edited with Dr. Nancy Lopez, Dept. of Sociology, University of New Mexico. New York, NY: Peter Lang Publishing. And most recently has a chapter. “I A Man,” in Estelle Disch’s (2005) Reconstructing Gender: A Multicultural Anthology, 4th Edition, High Bridge, NJ: McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc, and “Feeling Like A Failure,” 100 Plus True Stories, Cambridge Brick House Books (CBH Books), (June 2010).
